Jack Hammond, convicted and sentenced to life in prison, manages to escape from his captors. In need of a quick getaway, he takes a young woman named Nina (the only daughter of one of the state's wealthiest men) hostage and steals her car. The chase is broadcast live on TV channels with helicopters and police cars pursuing them along highways.
