Hagedorns Tochter (series) follows the story of a family named Hagedorn who lives in East Berlin during the latter years of World War II and into the early post-war era. The narrative begins with the father, Wilhelm Hagedorn, returning home after being imprisoned for his opposition to the Nazis. He eventually discovers that his half-sister, whom he believed died during the war, is alive and living under an assumed identity in West Berlin.
