Moonlight and Valentino follows Rebecca Trager Lott, a college poetry professor, after her husband Ben's sudden death in an accident. Her support system consists of her best friend Sylvie Morrow, her sister Lucy Trager, and their ex-stepmother Alberta Trager. Sylvie is dealing with marital issues, Lucy is directionless and insecure, while Alberta is domineering yet efficient. As Rebecca navigates grief, a local housepainter nicknamed 'Valentino' enters their lives, profoundly affecting each woman. Rebecca provides advice on their personal issues but struggles to come to terms with her own feelings of loss and guilt about her past marriage. The arrival of Valentino challenges the women's perceptions of love, relationships, and their own lives.
