Under the Skin follows Iris (Samantha Morton), the younger sister of Rose (Jane Wood), who has always been their mother's favorite despite being married and pregnant herself. After their mother's death, Iris struggles to cope with her loss and spirals into a self-destructive pattern of sexual promiscuity. She leaves her steady boyfriend Gary for a series of one-night stands with strangers, alienating those around her including Gary, Rose, her friends, and employers. As Iris continues down this path, it appears that she may lose everything meaningful to her.
