Historia
An anonymous official of a Roman television company spends his days watching six televisions in his office, showing nothing but news reports of violence and tragedies, feeling frustrated with his lack of success with women and his sexually repressed wife Fedora. After fifteen years, he reunites with an old friend Gualtiero, who believes he has mysterious enemies trying to kill him. Gualtiero's nymphomaniac wife Ada seduces our protagonist, convincing him to have Gualtiero institutionalized for treatment. Upon his release from the clinic, Gualtiero dies unexpectedly. At the funeral, Fedora reveals she is pregnant with Gualtiero's child.
Resumen
Directed by Elio Petri in 1979, 'Buone notizie' (Good News) is a dark comedy-drama that follows an unnamed television company official navigating his monotonous life filled with news of chaos and his unfulfilling marriage. The film explores themes of infidelity, jealousy, and the absurdity of modern life through the lens of a black comedy. Petri uses the protagonist's daily exposure to grim news reports as a commentary on the desensitizing effect of constant media consumption. The film's title is ironic, reflecting the lack of 'good news' in both the protagonist's personal life and the world around him.
