Cosma Shiva Hagen was indeed born in Los Angeles, but her persona is notably more enigmatic than her city's sunny reputation might suggest. This is likely attributable to her unconventional upbringing under the influence of her punk musician parents: German singer Nina Hagen and Dutch musician Ferdinand Karmel. According to family lore, Nina Hagen encountered a UFO during her pregnancy, leading her to name her daughter after the cosmos.
