Biografía completa
Karoline Eichhorn is a highly acclaimed German stage and screen actress, best known to international audiences for her role as police chief Charlotte Doppler in the Netflix series Dark.
Born on November 9, 1965, in Stuttgart, Germany, she grew up in a family that valued culture—her father was an archaeologist and her mother a book editor. Eichhorn's birth name is the same as her professional name, as there is no record of her using a different maiden or stage name.
After attending a Waldorf school, she pursued her passion for acting at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen from 1986 to 1989. Her professional journey began on the prestigious stages of the Schaubühne in Berlin and the Schauspielhaus Bochum. In the mid-1990s, she transitioned successfully to film and television, earning critical acclaim for her breakout performance in the thriller Der Sandmann (1995), for which she received the Adolf Grimme Award.
Over her decades-long career, she has balanced intense theatrical engagements at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg and the Burgtheater in Vienna with prominent roles in German staples like Tatort. Today, she resides in Hamburg with her husband, Danish author Arne Nielsen, and their daughter.
