Marlee Matlin, born Marlee Bethany Matlin on August 24, 1965, is an American actress known for being the youngest woman and the only deaf actress to win the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. She won this award at age 21 for her role in 'Children of a Lesser God'. Her work has also earned her a Golden Globe award with two additional nominations, and four Emmy nominations. Matlin is notably deaf since the age of two and is a prominent member of the National Association of the Deaf.
