Maya Gaugler starred in 'Sous le sable' (2000), playing Marie, a professor of English literature married to Jean for 25 years. They had no children and spent summers together in the southwest of France. One summer, Jean disappeared while swimming, leaving Marie without closure or a body. She chose to act as if he was still alive.
