Indeed, this soap opera icon has been gracing prominent daytime series since her discovery as a finalist at the Miss USA Pageant in late 1970s. Born in Huntington, West Virginia in 1960, Tonja, after becoming a local and later national pageant queen, took some advice and migrated to Los Angeles to pursue acting opportunities, which she swiftly secured. Cast alongside Matt Dillon and other emerging stars in the 1981 drama "Liar's Moon," her cinematic debut included a revealing scene where she bares all before an open window. This feat was accomplished within her first few weeks in Hollywood, a testament to her talent. She subsequently landed TV roles on shows like "Mr. Merlin," "Capitol," "Hunter," and "T.J. Hooker," but her breakthrough came as Olivia St. John on "General Hospital," a role she's inhabited since 1988.
