Her early career was marked by controversial roles in films like "Pretty Baby" (1978) and "The Blue Lagoon" (1980), as well as prominent modeling campaigns for brands like Calvin Klein.

Shields balanced her early fame with an academic pursuit, graduating from Princeton University in 1987 with a degree in French literature. Transitioning into adult roles, she starred in the successful sitcoms "Suddenly Susan" and "Lipstick Jungle", and established a significant presence on Broadway in productions such as "Grease", "Cabaret", and "Chicago".

In recent years, Shields has become a vocal advocate for mental health awareness, particularly regarding postpartum depression, which she detailed in her memoir Down Came the Rain. Her career was further explored in the 2023 documentary "Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields". More recently, she has expanded her ventures as the founder of the wellness platform "Commence" for women over 40 and was elected president of the Actors' Equity Association in 2024. Historia

In New Orleans' Storyville district around 1917, prostitute Hattie lives with her 12-year-old daughter Violet at Madame Nell's brothel. Photographer Ernest J. Bellocq becomes acquainted with both Hattie and Violet during his frequent visits to the brothel. When Violet is brought into prostitution by Madame Nell, she loses her virginity in an auction to a wealthy client for $400. Following this, Hattie marries a rich client and moves to Saint Louis, leaving Violet behind at the brothel. Violet decides to marry Bellocq and moves into his house. However, Hattie eventually returns, aiming to take Violet away from Bellocq.

Resumen

Directed by Louis Malle in 1978, 'Pretty Baby' is a drama set amidst the decadence of Storyville's brothels in early 20th-century New Orleans. The film explores themes of prostitution, innocence lost, and the complex relationships between a mother, daughter, and a photographer who becomes entwined in their lives. It sparked controversy due to its portrayal of child prostitution and has been described as disheartening and inflammatory.
